The Southern Cape Goju Ryu community recently had the honour of hosting a special Okinawan Dan Certificate handover ceremony at the OGKK George Shibu. This event marked an important milestone for students who successfully completed their dan gradings at the end of last year and have now officially received their Okinawan certificates.
Achieving a dan rank is not simply about technical ability—it reflects years of dedication, perseverance, discipline, and personal growth. Each certificate represents a journey of commitment to the art of Goju Ryu Karate, and a deep respect for its Okinawan roots and traditions.
The ceremony served as both a celebration of achievement and a reminder of the path ahead. While rank signifies progress, it also brings new responsibility and the expectation of continued learning and self-improvement.
Sensei Jannie shared the following message on the occasion:
